dining room wainscoting
david chang is a guywith some specific ideas of what a man cave should be. david wants his cave to incorporate several hobbies and reflect his heritage. so now we're here to give dave a shanghai surprise, with his very own man cave. you've gotta have a stage, right? if you're gonna do some karaoke you gotta have a stage. so we've got a stage going, we got a karaoke machine coming in. we've got some asian panels going from wall to wall as well. it's gonna give you that really nice backdrop.
now you see on the wall right here right?this is gonna be your new barn board wainscoting. and this is an authentic kind of asian, old-world wainscoting that we're going to put on the wall all the way around. with lunch being served for the rest of the crew, jason wasn't about to take a break. so we jumped in on some faux paneling. hey what's up? how are you? i'm excellent man, this stuff's really nice bro! yeah, you know i've installed all kinds of wainscotingand this was the fastest insulation i've ever seen.
and it basically just goes on with glue and screws so it's really light, really easy to install, there's no maintenance involved. if the walls are good, and they're straight,then you're gonna have a much easier time. if your walls are out of whack, and you've got all kinds of issues,it's gonna take a little bit longer. what is this made out of?it's made out of polyurethane, actually, so it's very very easy. the panels just go up, a little construction adhesive on the corners, pin nailer or a couple screws, and that's it they're up! it really doesn't matter if you hit the stud here because this is so light.
yeah just by tacking it in there, as soon as that glue takes hold-- --once that glue takes hold that's it. it's not going anywhere. you can use any kind of wainscoting you want. you can go real, which is a lot more expensive depending on what kind that you get and the species that you use. this is just an easier choicefor a lot of people and especially do-it-yourselfers because it's so easy to do, because you don't have multiple steps. so let's run through the process:you came in, you found the high spot and low spot on the floor, got your chalk line up right here.
we're just using that, and once you've established that, you just stay level, and just keep going down. you really did bring out the full grain pattern. you can even feel it. what i love about this product isby looking at it you would never know. and then you put the chair rail on top,a little adhesive on that, tack it into place and that's it. faux wainscoting is easy to install and a great do-it-yourself project. go ahead! just pull the curtain back. wow! oh my god! pretty cool feel right now?(david) yeah i need a drink.
when he first came through there i thought he was just like mesmerized that we actually pulled it off. this whole wall was a feature in this room, because this is all oak that's been stained,to match the wainscoting you got going on. and fireplace is incredible. anyway, i'm going to go teach jason how to play mahjongand build a couple more man caves. you guys enjoy it! thank you very much!
