bright colors for bedrooms

"hello, welcome to my home!" the bright orange hallway in ia hjarre's apartmentin stockholm contrasts with the intense blue of the kitchen cupboards. colours play an important role in her home. "when we were starting to play how we canchange these white old doors to something a bit more exciting we took out a lot of differentcolours. and with my husband being an architect aswell we always disagree on things. but we agreed on this colour. and when the doors arrived and they came upi was like: 'oh my god!'

it was a bit of a shock. but now when you look at the whole room asa space it feels good." the dining area is largely white, but featuresa wide array of furniture -- including a bench built by ia's great-great-grandfather. and this classic wall unit by geman designerdieter rams. "a home shouldn't be clinical. it's like something that takes different turns. you end up with a mixture of old and new things, things you collect. and your children bring home artefacts fromtheir school.

and things maybe my husband wants do get ridof and i want to keep and vice-versa. that's how life is. it is a bit of a mess, isn't it?" ia's bedroom is in a discreet shade of grey, which has a soothing effect. perfect for a good night's sleep. much of the bathroom is grey, too. and not only that: here teak takes the placeof tiles. "the texture of the timber was important. because everyone always uses tiles or stonein the bathroom.

with this it becomes warm. the warmth together with the quite dark coloursfeels earthy. it is an earthy feeling. very calm. i like this bathroom. coziness.“ apart from a few colourful pieces of furnitureand accessories, the living room is mainly white. and that's not because the architect suddenlyran out of paint.

the idea was to keep this a neutral placeto relax and unwind. it's one of ia favourite spots in the apartment. "white is a beautiful colour. i like white. with all our bits and bobs that we fill theflat with, the red chairs, colourful paintings and other colourful lights... of course you could have a bold colour onthe sofa but maybe it's nice that it's just some breathing space." ia and her husband thought carefully aboutwhich colours they wanted where - their spacious

apartment is a work of art in itself. "we have obviously looked at all the colourstogether. everything should be in harmony. although they are quite bright colours, wefeel that it is important that they work well together." and they certainly do! ia hjã¤rre’s apartment in stockholm's oldtown is a colourful and cosy abode.
