country dining room sets
something every home needs is a family diningtable. and today we're gonna be building one witha bit of a twist. we're gonna make a bespoke family dining tableout of reclaimed timber. using the reclaimed timber, it's fantasticbecause it adds a bit of earthiness, a bit of character, and really helps ground thespace. the great thing about this project is thelegs are all precut at bunnings, and they repurposed and reclaimed timber for the top. as we're using reclaimed timber for the top,the first step we need to do is to clean up the edges so we get a nice square edge toglue together.
the next step is to glue it all together. lay out your clamps, lay the timber on top, glue the edges. now we just need to use a chisel to removethe excess glue. cut the edges of your bench top square usinga straight edge and a circular saw. using a belt sander, sand back the top ofyour tabletop. the more you sand, the smoother it'll be. i'm now gonna give it a wax. this is gonna protect it and enhance the colorsof the timber. the timber for our legs has been precut atbunnings.
we need to sand it back to give it a nicefinish and remove any marks that may be on the wood. to construct your legs, pilot hole, countersink, glue, and screw. now your legs are assembled, we're gonna givethem a finish. you can finish them any way you wish, we'rejust gonna use a stain on ours. and here we have our two completed legs forour tabletop. all we need to do now is attach them to ourtabletop. fix your legs to your table using bolts. drill a pilot hole through the leg into thetable and then through so you know where to
drill your countersink hole. the countersink hole will hold your cup headbolt. flip your table over and slide the bolts upthrough the bottom. and slide your legs into place and securethem with nuts. i'm gonna use four bolts per leg, one on eitherend and two in the center for strength. and there you go, a six-seat wooden diningtable with the top made completely out of salvaged timber. i'm gonna go and find a spot for it in myhouse. this dining table looks absolutely fantasticand it really suits the space beautifully.
the reclaimed timber we started with, it tooka bit of work, but it's come up beautifully, really adds some character to this space andmakes it a focal point of the room.
