corner dining room hutch

hi! welcome to my new video tutorial. if you're new here, i'm pat rios from the wood spa and today i'm going to show you how i fixed a broken leg or a broken foot from a cedar chest that i just painted. as you can see in this picture this was a pretty big chunk that was missing. so i needed some hard wood filler to fix it i basically had to rebuild the missing part and glue it to the broken foot and sand it to the right shape so i could paint it before we start, make sure you click on the red button below the video and subscribe to my channel! all the supplies are listed in the video description easymold silicone putty

bondo wood filler wood glue soft wood filler electric sander and sandpaper. i started by making a mold with silicone putty i mixed equal parts of the purple and white components until both colors blended completely when my mix was ready, i wrapped it around one of the good feet that i wanted to replicate. this putty takes only 25 minutes to cure. that was it. my mold was ready!

next i prepared my bondo wood filler mix then i inserted the bondo mix into my mold and attached it to the broken leg. this was a lot of bondo. so i waited a full day before i removed the mold. then i glued the new piece to the broken foot and waited another day to make sure it was completely dry. finally, the new foot was ready to be sanded. as you can see, the bond wood filler dries as hard as wood so you can work with an electric sander for the most part until you get as close as possible to the shape you want. i used soft wood filler to make some touch-ups then i finalized with a fine sandpaper to make the surface smooth and ready for the paint.

much better, right? what about you? if you have any experience fixing the same kind of damage... a broken leg, broken foot leave your comments and tell me how you did it. what kind of material you used. i would appreciate your tips! if you liked this tutorial make sure you check out my playlist called preparing furniture for painting. i have a few more tips for you there. thanks for watching and i see you on the next video!
