dining room makeover

this is like a horror movie. oh no, what have i done? (upbeat music) ♪ toni and nikki are a fun, italian mother/daughter duo. they love to entertain. they love to cook but theydon't love their dining room. now, they have familycoming over from italy, so i'm going to help them makethat dining room bellissimo.

nikki: well, thisis our dining room. scott: wow, okay. toni: little dated. scott: so why is it-- why doyou want to renovate it now? what's this, what's happening? our italian cousinsare visiting us. they are both chefs, they own a restaurant. they own a cooking school and i'm a little nervousabout cooking for them

so i thought at least ifthe dining room was updated and looking great, it wouldtake the focus off my cooking. scott: okay, okay. you know, when ilook at this space, i immediately think of somebody who could help me with this,a little bit of backup. i'm going to take somepictures and send them to her. she's gonna laughbecause it looks just like her parents' house, and that would be my wife.

and she's also italian. (laughs) in the meantime, ithink it's safe to say we could start packinga few things up, clearing things out andthen we'll go from there. sound like a plan? yes.perfect, yeah. you know we're going towork up an appetite today. for sure, i'm ready for you. what is cooking in here?

we're gonna make-- we'remaking an onion bread. onion bread! you're going toadd everything. yeah, i can do this,c'mon, i can do this. so you went to italy last year, they're coming here this year. you're gonna goback and visit again? we'd like to, we love it. if you're gonnabe traveling a lot,

you've got to use atraveler's travel card, right? right. like the cibcaventura visa card, that way you can havesomebody help you with your bookings, accumulate points. my wife and itravel all the time. italy is one ofour favorite spots. oh, really? yes, hey babe, come in.

we're in the kitchen. this is my wife, sabrina. you got the picturesthat i sent you of the dining room? and you brought some stuff.i did. i did. okay, very good.i'm excited! scott: okay, so you've gotsome work to do in the kitchen. we've got some work todo in the dining room. i'm gonna bringsabrina in to help me

and we'll regroup shortly. toni: perfect! toni: thank you.scott: thank you. so, we've alreadygot the paint up, which i told youis gonna be blue. and we are going tore-use their furniture. okay. the chairs are a disaster, this one's not too bad butthe cushions are all stained.

well, i got some material, most of the chairswe can do this one. and then the two kindof captain end chairs we can kind of makeit a little different. okay, so i'llfinish the painting, i'm gonna finish cleaningup the rest there. and if you couldhelp get us some new stuff for the space.excellent. we'll double team this room.

and then your parentsare gonna ask us to do theirs, probably. you're probably right. okay, let's get to work. the biggest impacton this dining room is gonna be the color change. and so i chose great basin,it's a deep blue color. very bold but becausewe are re-using a lot of the samefurniture in here,

i wanna be able tohave a big impact. and i chose para'slow sheen eggshell so that it doesn't havea glossy look to it but the quality is here and it looks phenomenal. it's gonna feel so differentwhen you open your eyes now! nikki: what!toni: oh my god! scott: (laughs) toni: oh my god!nikki: i'm speechless!

scott: okay, go in! toni: oh, this looks amazing! toni: holy smokes!scott: is this notvery different? oh, i'm gonna cry, wow! okay, that was worth it. (laughs) i'm so excited! oh, i love it, i love it. scott: the blue is the theme,it's bold, it's different.

you want to make astatement with this room? that's what thiscolor is going to do. so, basically we'relooking from the top down, we did the light fixture, we painted the walls,we did new drapes. we switched the furniture, eliminated the bar, moved it into the living room. put in the new rug,re-upholstered the chairs. and the good news is,it's still all your stuff.

nikki: it is.scott: it's all your stuff. we made over the dining room before the cannelloniwas even ready. imagine, actually, it's ready. scott: it is ready? yes, i hope you're hungry. scott: salut!all: salut! by hand? yes, you've gotto knead the dough.

what?! i can't put my hands inhere, it's all goopy.
