vintage black and white living room ideas
julie, this is such a marvelous urban apartment.it's really interesting to me that we're now in an age where we're reusing things, thingsthat might of had one purpose originally, but now they're being crafted into decorativeobjects. so you've used so many of them here in this place. thank you, i believe in recyclingpieces that have had another life. right, right. and i think it's also a creative anda reasonably priced opportunity -- yes -- to have something unique in your home. like thisvintage metal steamer trunk. i mean, it's really great looking and it's perfect forthe entertainment system. and it's something unexpected. yeah. you would not expect tofind a steamer trunk in the set holding up a television and being part of the media.julia, tell me about this coffee table because
it's very unique. i see that there are liketwo layers and there are handles on each end. obviously, it was used to carry something, and i have no idea what. right. but i thought, who cares? right. it's the perfect heightfor a coffee table. it works beautifully. and i'm crazy about this old toolbox. andyou have it filled with vintage pool balls for a splash of color. i think was the perfectscale, again, for the top of the coffee table and i like the age and patina. yeah. and whodoesn't wanna have a little bit of fun with the -- what you place inside of it. well,it's so rustic, but it fits this very sophisticated urban apartment. i thought it would be funto use an old postal bag and to create a pillow. yeah, no, it's very good and very substantial.it is, indeed. nothing is ever gonna happen
to this bag. no, i wouldn't think. now, ido have a question about these lamps: they're -- i'm trying to figure out exactly what theywere. they're very interesting. they, actually, are european gymnastics equipment. ah. i foundthem out in the middle of flea market field. yeah. and i thought they would make the perfectfloor lamps. oh, i love the scale of them. they're great. and, again, a pair is alwaysa good thing to find. this wall down here, i really like how symmetrical it is. i mean, you walk over there and you look to the left, you see the beautiful skyline of chicago, and then you have this symmetrical arrangement of two lamps that are on a glass top table.and that table is supported by, what appears to me to be, wallpaper rolling tables. andthat is exactly correct. that's what they
were. really? for hand blocking wallpaper?exactly. and the theme continues in this very posh dining room. this compote is just amazingto me. i recognize it right off -- it's an agricultural disk, one used to be pulled behinda plow. look at that. i think you're one of the only people that would of identified thatimmediately. it comes from growing up on a farm. okay. well, you're, again, dead on.i saw it as an imari piece. yeah. and i thought it would make the most amazing architecturalcompote for the center of this glossy black table. it's very strong and beautiful. i lovethe patina on it. and i just love the vintage doorknob collection that you put togetherfor them on one of the etageres. very good. thank you. i had them mounted, which madeit a little bit more interesting than just
laying flat. and we've enjoyed that littlecollection. well, you have inspired us with so many ideas about how can look at thingsin a different way. thank you so much. you are very welcome. if you're enjoying thesetips, check in with us regularly. and make sure you subscribe to ehow home. hey, there'sa painting back here that i'd like to take a look at. let's go look at it. sure.
